So I decided that I couldn't leave the die cut card the way it was. I used a Pilot silver marker to dot around the words and I used a piece of narrow silver metallic ribbon to cover the small strip of silver card stock and to make a little faux bow. Small details, but they made a difference. Looking at it now, i wish i had had the energy to pull out my sewing machine and run a line of stitching down the silver ribbon and and along the side of the ribbon. That extra bit of texture would have been nice. Next time. Here is what it looked like in the end:
I also made a card to congratulate my nephew on his new home, once again using one of Lori Whitlock's Silhouette Box Card templates. I did some layering with foam tape pieces and it went together pretty easily. I use these cards to challenge myself to use up old scraps and to combine them with papers from new kits that at first stumped me. It's a lot of fun to see how old and new can come together.
I find that when I make cards or scrapbook pages, it's like writing - I need to walk away and give them a rest period. When I come back there are little changes here and there that I believe improve them. However, many years ago I read in someone's book on Scrapbooking (my apologies that I don't remember the author to give an attribution): "It's better to be finished than to be perfect." I try to live with that in my life, not just in my crafting!
